The 9th edition of Italian Design Icons (IDI), held from November 22nd to 24th, 2024, at the exclusive 800 Show in Jing ‘an District, Shanghai, was a resounding success.
This year, IDI took a significant step by partnering with the Shanghai International Design Festival (SIDF), creating a bridge between Italian design excellence and global innovation.
This collaboration underscored a shared commitment to sustainability, inclusiveness, and breakthrough creativity, reflecting the event’s theme: “Manufacturing Value: Inclusiveness, Innovation, and Sustainability.”
This year’s edition also featured the largest lineup in its history, with 20 iconic Italian brands presenting groundbreaking innovations in smart manufacturing, tech textiles, home design, and eco-friendly packaging.
These brands demonstrated the enduring strength and diversity of Italian creativity on an international stage.
The event’s program featured 15 engaging talks and workshops over three days, bringing together CEOs, designers, industry experts, and students. Discussions focused on the role of design and technology in promoting sustainability and innovation. Notably, more than 70 international guests contributed their insights, enriching the dialogue and inspiring attendees.
The highlight of the event was the IDI Awards Ceremony.
Pininfarina was honored with “The Most Trending Brand”award for its extraordinary achievements in automotive products.
Matteo Vittorio Bertelè, General Manager of Dainese, received the accolade for “The Most Influential Speaker” for his compelling vision and leadership.
These awards celebrated the contributions of Italian innovators pushing the boundaries of design.
A new initiative, “Icons of Change: Women Shaping the Future,” recognized female designers and entrepreneurs making a positive impact. Michela Di Maria, General Manager of Bertone Design NCC, was celebrated for her innovative approach and dedication to sustainability.
IDI also supported emerging talent through a collaboration with Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and iGuzzini. Five students participated in the “Week of Light” workshop and were awarded three iconic lamps—two designed by Gio Ponti and one by iGuzzini—during a lively ceremony.
The event culminated with an elegant VIP Cocktail, where CEOs, and Design icons gathered to network and celebrate the success of IDI 2024. The atmosphere was vibrant, fostering new connections and collaborations.
This remarkable edition of IDI was made possible thanks to the support of Iconic sponsors, Platinum sponsors, Diamond Sponsors, Institutional and Academic Partners, along with F&B Partners.
Notably, IDI 2024 achieved record-breaking collaborations, with partnerships established with 40 media outlets, significantly amplifying the event’s global reach, and 12 food and beverage providers, enriching the overall attendee experience with premium culinary offerings.
